We are delighted to announce that we are now supplying & distributing an excellent range of product from the Cornish Olive Company.

The Cornish Olive Company which was officially opened late last year, marinades, blends, & packages a range of delicious Greek Olives available in both retail & catering packs. After running an olive stall on Falmouth market and taking part in food festivals, Erik Verwaaijen joined with business partner Steve Magill to form the company. They recently set up in their new 1,500sq ft base, which they spent thousands of pounds transforming over three months. We are now offering their complete range of Marinated Olives which you can view in the ‘Pickles, Relishes & Vinegar’ section of our ‘Dry Goods’ range.

Food price increases set to continue...

Food prices around the world have been rising sharply. In January, the wholesale cost of food hit its highest monthly figure on record, according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Prices were higher than their peak in 2008, when a food crisis prompted riots and demonstrations around the world. What's more, oil prices are also edging up, reaching their highest level in two years. Severe weather in some of the world's biggest food exporting countries damaged supplies. That has helped to push food prices almost 20% higher than a year earlier, according to the FAO.  The price of a barrel of oil has topped $125 on the London market, the highest level for almost three years. There have been sharp rises in recent weeks following political unrest in oil producing countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Underlying this uncertainty is the rising demand for oil. Like food, it is difficult to escape the impact of the rising crude prices. It not only directly affects the cost of fuel and energy, but also feeds into the prices of other goods by raising the cost of production and transportation. The prices of staple foods will more than double in 20 years unless world leaders take action to reform the global food system, Oxfam has warned.  By 2030, the average cost of key crops will increase by between 120% and 180%, the charity forecasts.Among the many factors driving rising food prices in the coming decades, Oxfam predicts that climate change will have the most serious impact.
